S. Thomas Scarff has established himself over the past thirty years as an artist at the forefront of contemporary sculpture. A pioneer in the use of light in sculpture, Scarff still incorporates illumination in large scale indoor and outdoor public works. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, has received national acclaim, exhibitions, and commission from the Museum of Science and Industry (a project resulting in a Hugo Award), the Art Institute, the American Committee for the Weissman Institute of Science, and two awards plus a special invitational project from the National Endowment for the Arts. A long-time Chicago resident (and Professional Level Member of both the International Sculpture Center and Chicago Sculpture International,  Scarff’s role at Sedgwick Studio has left lasting connections with the city as a whole. While he retains his space at Sedgwick Studio, Scarff has also built a painting studio on a sand beach in Michigan City, IN. Though much of his time is currently spent on this picturesque beach, to Scarff, the Chicago skyline is always on the Western horizon.
